DTKAF-177 Round 1 Illu 3 Pretty in Pink

Edit I moved junk around, and touched a few things up. This picture is now vastly improved. Huzzah.

Second and final illustration for End Run's round one yessssss This is the one I should have put up on Valentine's Day, look at those adorable hearts! I even started this one before the other one. _{I told you Xander's plane would be adorable and friendly.. I should practice drawing inside my borders orz}

The Gentleman Jim was steadily pulling ahead of the pack. Elliot Dapper glanced back at the planes slowly falling behind. Who would have guessed.. Maybe he really might have.. a knack for this...?
..Wait, nope, all flickering beginnings of self-confidence and hope were dashed at the sight of a plane low over the water, speeding ahead and gaining ground rapidly.
...Next time... maybe..

Xander had been flying for close to ten years by this point. Nothing nearly as fast or difficult as a spitfire sure, but whether you were a farfetch'd or a Spruce Goose the tricks of flying were all the same.
His exeggcute was keeping up a strong reflect, with every ounce of power she had she bolstered it and kept it from shattering in the onslaught of wind raging against it. Like birds flying in a V formation Xander rode in the wake it created.
Keeping low to the water gave his plane extra lift, and these things combined bumped up his plane's efficiency and gave him a boost of speed.
There was less chance of hitting a jumping fish than there was a bird flying up from the trees, another reason he stayed over the water.
And finally.. he was hoping nobody would notice him down there.
"Damn who's that chick tearing ahead?!" A voice came over the radio. So much for subtlety. Xander could feel his face turning hot with embarrassment.
When he got back to camp, he was going to MURDER Miguel. He was also NEVER going to ask him to paint his plane again.
"Hey girly go easy on us guys why don'tcha?" A second voice. A few others chimed in with laughing and agreement.
Xander was boiling, Miguel had really gone too far this time. His stupid pranks between just the two of them were one thing, but in front of the entire force.. Xander bit his lip so hard it threatened to bleed.
"FXXX EVERYTHING."
There was silence over the radio. A long silence. A burst of awkward laughter, then nobody said a word for the rest of the race.


...I swear Xander has more expressions than just 'angry' and 'livid' :,D He can be a decent kinda guy.. I promise <:,D
The scenery kinda parallels what he's feeling in this picture though. There's a storm a-comin' Miguel. Can you feel it?!
Scenery is not something I do often.. or... ever T8 But I like to think this scene turned out pretty good :,D
And after slapping my hand against my tablet for a little while I managed to get some decent planes down :,D
They were actually a lot of fun, I'm rather pleased with how Xander's came out.

That is not the paint job it's going to have, Xander would never keep something like that sadly. Now that I've finished my Round One entries I'm going to draw his plane how he'll actually have it for the rest of his run here haha

The other planes in the picture are all I could find in the ER gallery. ..There were only four Kantonese designs.. maybe I wasn't looking hard enough :,D
I hope you guys are cool with me using your planes, and with them being so tiny and obscured orz
I loved doing them! Looking at these planes and characters.. the designs and ideas behind them are just.. so cool O,: I'm in love with the variety around here~
..I also hope it's cool I wrote some Elliot there TorinAura, even if the artist comment story isn't all that important, I'm still hoping I got Elliot with some degree of accuracy <:,D Sorry!
